Expressing Yourself Matters

– whatever the medium, and what is public speaking if not self-expression, at its most direct? Also what is self-expression, if not a fundamental need felt by every person in the deepest recesses of their being?

Whenever you stand in front of a group of people and express yourself you have the opportunity to reveal yourself to them, perhaps so profoundly as to change their lives.

To quote the Danish writer, Isak Dinesen, “To be a person is to have a story to tell.” – and a unique one. No two lives are alike. You are original, one of a kind, therefore your experience in life is unparalleled. Nobody has lived your life but you.

And if you have the courage, when expressing yourself, to stand revealed at a “podium” you have the potential to move mountains.

Others have done this. Why not you?

Or, if you have no mountains to move, at least let your audience have a glimpse of your true nature and character through what you say and how you say it.

You owe it to yourself and to the world to let an audience discover the singularity of you.

To quote the great 20th century American choreographer Martha Graham:

“There is a vitality, a life force, or as I would say – a fire, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you, the experience is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost…”

So yes, Expressing Yourself Matters to your audience and as importantly, to you!
